Spiro Bulldogs top Checotah Lady Wildcats on Senior Night
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Spiro Lady Bulldogs (18-5) defeated the Checotah Lady Wildcats 55-37 on Senior Night at the Checotah Event Center. Both teams came out playing physically and with aggression. Checotah traded basket for basket but in the end of the first period Spiro would close with a 13-9 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs forced several turnovers and poor passing by the Lady Wildcats turned into points for Spiro. Checotah senior Shyanne Madewell played tough defense in the second period, as this game would be her last played on her home court. Carly Dismukes hit a three-pointer and Kailynn Thrall scored at the foul line as Spiro led 22-14 at the half.

The Lady Wildcats came out the third period and scored four three-point baskets by four different players. Dismukes, Madewell, Logan Dowdy and Nikia Carr each scored from the arch.

Spiro’s Brynleigh Graham was unstoppable in the paint as she led all scorers with 14 points. She used her size and height advantage into points in the paint. Kiana Craig and Kamyn McClure scored from the perimeter with both combining for 22 points for Spiro as the Lady Bulldogs outscored Checotah 2016 in the third period.

The Lady Wildcats would not go away quietly as Kailyn Thrall, Alanah Madding, Nikia Carr and Madewell tightened up on defense and forced the Lady Bulldogs to take poor shots at the basket. Kalleigh York of Checotah got hot in the fourth period as she scored five of the seven points scored in the period by the Lady Wildcats.

Spiro would hold on to the ball to seal the 55-37 victory.

Graham led Spiro with 14 points, Kiana Craig 12 points, Kamyn McClure added 10 points.

Shyanne Madewell led Checotah with 10 points, Carr seven points, Dismukes six points and York added five points.

Westville (18-8) defeated Checotah 59-31 in district action on Friday. No stats available.
