Sooners dismantle Florida 55-20 in Goodyear Cotton Bowl

The No. 6 ranked Oklahoma Sooners dismantled the No. 7 ranked Florida Gators’ defense and pummeled them 55- 20 Wednesday evening in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl. OU scored first and never looked back as quarterback Spencer Rattler directed them on a five-play, 79-yard drive in just a tick over two minutes and connected with wide receiver Marvin Mims for the 27-yard touchdown and early 7-0 lead. On the Gators’ second play from scrimmage, defensive back Tre Norwood read Heisman hopeful Kyle Trask and picked him off, returning it 45 yards to the house. It was 14-0 just 2:38 into the contest. It would be the first of three interceptions for Trask.

Former Checotah coach Brandon Turley reflects on winning state title

Being a high school coach in Oklahoma takes you down many roads and that was not an exception with former Checotah head football coach Brandon Turley. Turley led the Checotah Wildcats to a district title in 2008 and left the program a year later to work on his master’s degree prior to becoming one of the best athletic directors in the state. Turley was known for his offensive schemes and success his teams had on that side of the football. He was regarded as being one of the top offensive coordinators this side of Interstate 35.
