Leonard Hill grew up one block away from the Douglas school building. His mother, Peggy Hill, attended the school many years ago before it closed. He even played on the playground as a child when his grandmother would send him out to play. Her house, which is now Hill?s property, was only three blocks away from the school and he remembers lots of kids playing all day long, going house to house, and down to the school yard. So when Hill saw in the newspaper that the school was being sold, he placed his bid of $2,500 on it. Then he went to the school board meeting to see if his bid was enough to purchase the old school building and restore it for everyone to enjoy in the community.
