Born in 1951, Lucious Selmon graduated from Eufaula High School in 1969, and went on to star on the University of Oklahoma’s defensive line.
A talented and tenacious nose guard, Selmon was named a unanimous All-American in 1973, and was named the Chevrolet/ABC National Defensive Player of the Year, the Big 8 Conference Athlete of the Year, and the Big 8 Defensive Player of the Year.
He finished second in balloting for the Outland Trophy, and seventh in voting for the Heisman Trophy.
After graduating in 1974 with a degree in special education, Selmon was drafted by the New England Patriots. He played for two seasons in the World Football League before returning to Oklahoma as an assistant coach, where he worked 13 seasons under Head Coach Barry Switzer and six more under Gary Gibbs.
In 1995, Selmon was hired as an assistant coach for the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars, and would later coach for the Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders.
