Honey Springs Battlefield to host artillery demonstrations

On Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Honey Springs Battlefield will host artillery demonstrations highlighting the use of Civil War-era firearms. This outdoor education station will inform visitors about military drills, artillery practices and ammunition used in the Battle of Honey Springs.

Guests are also encouraged to explore the east gallery exhibit hall, which features 14 audio players with recordings from first-hand written accounts of soldiers who fought at the Battle of Honey Springs. They can also learn more about the site through the Visitor Center’s exhibits, highlighting the variety of artillery used in the battle.

The program is free with the cost of regular admission. For more information call 918-617-7125 or email honeysprings@history. ok.gov.

Honey Springs Battlefield is located east of US Highway 69 between Oktaha and Rentiesville. The Visitor Center is located on a hill near the Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame in Rentiesville. Take the second left after reaching the Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame Museum (driving from the west).

Honey Springs Battlefield and Visitor Center is a division of the Oklahoma Historical Society.
