Curtis Edward Working

Curtis Edward Working, known fondly as Curt, was born on Aug. 31, 1935, to Kenneth Calvin Working, Sr. and Ruth Evelyn (Beardsley) Working. He passed away on July 10, 2024.

Curtis was preceded in death by his sister Mary (Working) Phipps, brothers Kenneth C. Working, Jr. and Wesley Working, and son Benjamin H. Working.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Ann (“Betty”) Working, his sons Edward and Ken, daughters- in-law Agnieszka Working and Terri Working, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, his sister Cora (Working) Lambert, and many dear friends.

Curt was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and the Navy Reserve. After his military service, he had a diverse career, including roles as a project manager and Aug. 31, 1935 – July 10, 2024

business owner, before retiring after 24 years as manager of Fountainhead State Park.

He dedicated over 20 years to volunteering at the Muskogee VAMC, where his selfless volunteer service exceeded 15,000 hours, and he also devoted time to his local church food shelf.

A faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Checotah, Curt was also active in the Eufaula and Checotah Masonic Lodges, He was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason and an active member of the York Rite, and various civic organizations.

His greatest joy was serving others, and he touched many lives through his kindness and dedication.

Curt’s positive attitude, strong faith, humility, and sense of humor were hallmarks of his character. He had a remarkable ability to lift the spirits of those around him, often with a well-timed joke or a warm smile. His unwavering faith and humility were evident in every aspect of his life, inspiring all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Checotah First United Methodist Church Memorial.

He will be deeply missed.
