COUNTY SEAT AGAIN!
After a lapse of several months the county seat case is again before the public eye but this time before a referee appointed by the Supreme court of the state to take the evidence and report findings to that body. Immediately following the last election when the returns showed that Eufaula had won by a narrow margin Checotah began injunction proceedings on the ground that fraud and corruption had been practiced and cited by affidavit and otherwise to prove the contention.
County Sunday School Convention
The McIntosh County Sunday school association will meet at Deer’s chapel west of Eufaula next Sunday in an all-day session.
Broke An Arm
While at play at the home of Frank Jones Sunday afternoon, Ilee, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Cobb of the north side, had the misfortune to fall and break both bones of one arm.

Two-Day Poultry Culling School
A two-day poultry culling school was held in Checotah Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Four flocks were visited during the work where actual culling was done. There were 19 present the first day and 15 the second. Mr. Clyde Ingram, poultry specialist from the A. & M. college conducted the school.
SCHOOL OPENS SEPT. 8
The 1924-25 session of the Checotah City Schools will open on Monday, Sept. 8 with a complete corps of teachers who are artists in their line. Prospects for a successful year are most encouraging and the welfare of every child who will attend will be carefully guarded.

P.W.A. GRANTS $25,584 FOR CITY LAKE PROJECT Word was received here Friday by Mayor L.K. Sharpe from the Public Works Administration in Washington stating that a grant of $23,584 had been made for the construction of a new city lake ½ mile west of Onapa.
Drought Broke by One Inch Rain Tuesday The mighty drought that has been ravaging the farm products of the county for the past 10 weeks was broken Tuesday and Wednesday by rainfalls amounting to about one inch.
Feed, Seed Loans Now Available For County Farmers Applications for seed and feed loans are being taken by W.C. Metcalfe in his office, over the State National Bank in Eufaula. When the loans have been approved by the local committee they will be sent to St. Louis and the checks will be sent to the farmers.
CORN LOAN PLAN EXTENDED
Washington, Aug. 23 – The agriculture adjustment administrations corn loan plan, fate of which has been in doubt because of an expected short corn crop, was extended tonight from Sept. 1 to Jan. 1, 1935.

City Scouts Honored for Selling Bonds
Checotah Boy Scouts were presented advancement awards and given recognition for their bond sales work at a court of honor held at the Longfellow school Friday evening at which B.H. Tabor, District Scout Commissioner, presided.
Petty Officer Returns
From Bermuda, paradise isle of the Atlantic, returns Petty Officer John Wayne Johnson, looking very fit and hearty, smartly tanned by the semitropical sun. Johnson, who spent a week of his liberty with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Johnson here, is a member of the U.S. Naval band. With the band in Bermuda he has appeared upon innumerable public programs and private concerts before high island officials, including the British governor.
He leaves next week for New York to again embark for Bermuda

Army Engineer Says Check Reveals One Dam Preferred
A recommendation that one dam instead of two be built on the Canadian river southeast of Checotah is highly probably if a present trend continues in a poll of public opinion.
SEASON’S FIRST BALE OF COTTON COMES TO CITY
The season’s first bale of cotton was marketed in Checotah last Friday by Robert Ross, farmer in the North Canadian River bottoms.
Ross’ bale weighed 1,355 pounds and brought 12 cents per pound in the seed. The cotton was the Mebane variety.

Boren-Clem in Run-Off
In the statewide races and Congressional races, McIntosh County pretty well split its votes with the only U.S. Sente candidate Ed Edmondson receiving a majority of votes cast. Ed got 2,968 compared to 1,593 for Charles Nesbit, his closest opponent.
The governor’s race turned up the biggest surprise as David Boren took the lead early and held on to get in a runoff spot with Clem McSpadden.

McIntosh County Democrat, Indian Journal under new management Sumner Newspapers, Inc., a family-owned corporation, has completed the purchase of three newspapers from Lake Eufaula Publishing LLC. The newspapers include The Eufaula Indian Journal, the McIntosh County Democrat and The Lake Eufaula Clipper.
Darrell Sumner, president and CEO of Sumner Newspaper, Inc., will serve as Publisher of the three newspapers. He and his wife, Patty, plan to make their home in the Eufaula area.

The Checotah Walking Trail at the Checotah Sports Complex was dedicated and a ribbon cutting held on Thursday, Sept. 4.
