Last Thursday a tragedy was enacted in the rear of the Russell & Walthall livery when Joe Watson shot and instantly killed John Kilpatrick, an old citizen of Checotah.

The men had previously used harsh language to each other.

Unassuming Soldier Wins Medal of Honor If ever there was a truly homespun hero, Pfc. Leo J. Powers, soldier from Fort Lawton, who received the Congressional Medal of Honor, qualifies for the title.
He is 35, under height and weight, with false teeth.
But the citations which he received, and the stories told by his few surviving buddies, prove that he rose to almost superhuman heights on Feb. 1, when, single-handed, he made it possible for the battalion to take Hill 175, near Cassino.
