Darrell Ray Proctor, 59, was leaning against a car corral in the Walmart automotive area on Aug. 2 in when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a store employee, according to a Checotah police report.
Both Proctor and the driver, Sherry Young Goodwin, were flown to St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa, Officer Jacob Mitchell stated in his report.
Mitchell said that shortly before 11 a.m. Goodwin was attempting to move a vehicle in the service area when the vehicle accelerate quickly and swerved to the right, striking a car corral.
“Proctor saw the vehicle and tried to move out of the way but was struck by the car corral sending him into the air and landing on the pavement on his head,” Mitchell’s report stated after he reviewed a videotape of the incident.
The car ended up in a ditch and a police officer and a firefighter assisted Goodwin out of the vehicle, Mitchell said.
He said Goodwin complained of lower back pain.
No citations were issued in the accident.
