Let there be light!
By SHAUNA BELYEU GENERAL MANAGER

Downtown Eufaula came alive Friday night as the community gathered for the annual Lights on Eufaula celebration, officially ushering in the Christmas season with bright lights, festive music, and hometown cheer. This year’s event, hosted by Vision Eufaula (VE), was bigger and brighter.

Main Street was transformed into a holiday wonderland. Music drifted through the cool November air, kids bounced from inflatable to inflatable, and families filled the sidewalks, ready to welcome the magic of the season together. At exactly 5:45 p.m., the crowd counted down as the downtown lights flickered on—setting Eufaula aglow and marking the unofficial start of Christmas.

Hundreds of fans filled the streets, visiting stores open late for early Christmas shoppers. Local businesses kept their doors open, welcoming shoppers with special deals, sweet treats, and warm holiday greetings. Many residents used the evening to support local shops and find unique gifts while enjoying the festive atmosphere.

VE organizer, Karen Weldin was pleased with the turnout for Friday night’s event.

“It warmed my heart for the businesses to express their gratitude for the event,” Weldin said.

“It is our hope that visitors will have a great experience downtown and come back.”

This year’s Grand Marshal, News On 6 anchor Lori Fullbright, recognized by viewers across Oklahoma for her commitment to community storytelling, led the countdown, shopped locally and stopped to greet families and pose for photos.

Live performances kept the crowd entertained throughout the evening. Local talents Ave Rose Johnson and Tucker Leathers delivered crowdpleasing sets and The Pride of Eufaula Marching Band filled downtown with classic Christmas melodies that had visitors swaying, singing, and smiling.

Children enjoyed a larger lineup of inflatables, each one bustling with excitement, and the highlight for many was a visit with Santa Claus at the vibrant 3D mural, where families captured the season’s first holiday photos.

Trolley rides offered a festive way to take in the twinkling lights and festive storefronts, giving guests a chance to enjoy the sights without having to walk the entire downtown stretch.

Kids and adults loved taking the ride through town and the lights.

The Legacy on Main Street turned full-on Whoville for the night, and the holiday cheer was louder than a Who-ville chorus! Kids and parents alike stepped into a swirl of festive chaos where the Grinch himself made surprise appearances, scowling, sneaking, and (occasionally) cracking a smile. The Grinch movie played in the background, setting the mood for a night of laughter and mischief. Tables overflowed with sweet treats and drinks. It was enough to make everyone smile, even those whose heart started three sizes too small.

Lights on Eufaula once again showcased the charm and holiday spirit that make small-town celebrations so memorable. With lights, laughter and a community that loves to gather, Eufaula kicked off the Christmas season in true hometown style.
