October Departmental Reports

CIDA – Report given by Ernie Moore concerning the purchase of the Z property at the South Industrial Park. Deed has been signed and filed with the county.

CIDA was awarded a PREP Grant which will be used to hire engineer for South Industrial Park.

Planning and Zoning/Board of Adjustments – Report given by Chairman, Mark McCullough on rezoning lots behind Taco Bell and area behind Watson’s for lift station. Also, wanting to appoint Grayson Schuering to replace Cindy Schuering on Planning and Zoning/Board of Adjustments Commission.

EMS – Report was givne by EMS Director, Justin Needham on proposed new rates for EMS, rate sheet included area EMS billing rates as a comparison for Checotah’s rates. For the month of September, they went on 162 calls and had 17 transfers.

Fire – No report given. Maintenance – Report given by Asst. Director, James Curtis, of 151 work orders completed. Welding fence almost completed for Rainbolt Park.

Police – Report given by Marvin Harrel of 21 reports taken, 33 calls for extra patrol, 26 animal complaints, 30 tickets written, 7 jailed with $1500 in bonds posted and 1131 calls for service. Reported cameras currently down at the jail and prisoners being housed at the county if needed.

Ordinance – Report given by Code Enforcer, Adam Arden, 2 of the condemned homes have started demo by owners and one to re-inspect. Earl Mathews has been utilizing community service workers to continue to clean up around town by cleaning and mowing alleyways and easements. Several tall grass violations were given and 6 for trash. New apartments being built are up to code and plan on painting Grapevine Bridge.

Emergency Management – Report given by Emergency Manager, Marcus Cunningham, checking on grant for 911 center, still haven’t heard anything.

Meeting with company from OML on tornado siren updates and lightning detectors.

Chamber – Report given by Vice President, Chris Brown, on Fall Car Show and Touch a Truck at the Sports Complex. Chamber is finalizing Christmas Parade and Shop Checotah.

Recreation – Report was given by Director, Chris Brown. Started by thanking everyone for their help with Rainbolt Family Corner. Lightning detectors are in and will be installed and tested. The splash pad has been closed for the winter. Checotah will be hosting Little League Football playoffs on November 1, 2025.

Water/Wastewater – Report given by Utilities Director, Jeremy Jones. Had 7 employees attend class for water licenses and everyone passed. Still have 60-70 meters to install and the water dept. will be completing those. Water productions for the last month was 41,778,487 gal. raw water, 24,775,586 gal. produced, 17,519,500 gal. sold for a total revenue of $127,266.59.
