Mary ‘Rachel’ Kindred Sweet

November 2, 1929 – November 21, 2025

Mary “Rachel” Kindred Sweet was born November 2, 1929, to John and Golda (Mackey) Kindred in Checotah, Oklahoma. She passed away November 21, 2025. This country girl took off all on her own to “The City” where she attended Hill’s Business Academy. When she began working at Tinker Air Force Base she met The Love of her life, James Merlyn Sweet. They were married November 11, 1951. They had 5 children: Merlyn Sweet, of Tulsa, William Sweet and wife Vicki, of Oklahoma City, Susan Moss and husband Pete, of Tulsa, Lee Sweet and wife Lorraine, of Tulsa, Joy Sanders and husband Steve, of Pink. Their grandchildren include Rachel Dawson, Victoria Beattie, Tara Davis, Erin Smaligo, Matthew Sweet, Stormey Perez, Anthony James Moss, Kira Moss Danford, Jessica Vargas, Courtney Box Dorman, Chelsie Broadwater, Jennifer Jaletta J.J. Sanders, Gabrielle Sanders Keath, and Joshua Stephen Sanders. While her husband Jim preceded her in death, passing on August 20, 2007, the number of their great-grandchildren continues to grow every day.

Rachel obtained her Associate Degree from Rose State College so that she could meet the qualifications to serve our Lord and Jesus Christ through the Foreign Mission/International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Rachel and Jim served in Argentina, Israel, and Peru. Rachel taught Sunday School, VBS, and Children’s Mission Organizations in all the churches she attended. She was a member of First Baptist Church at the time of her death. She considered her children her greatest accomplishment. She remained the same country girl at heart even though she traveled the globe.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church Midwest City Oklahoma on December 11, 2025, at 11a.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Francis Hospice or Clarehouse of Tulsa.
