Six-County Gospel Singing Convention

The Six-County Gospel Singing Convention will meet at the Free Will Baptist Church, 101 East Ute Street, Porum, OK, Saturday, July 29, 10 a.m. with singing from a recently published shaped-note songbook with a lot of new songs as well some older songs. The book is published by Dylan Feezell & Sam Wright from AL. Both of them are song leaders; pianists; and songwriters. Most of the singing will be congregational singing with a few special songs throughout the day. Singers & pianists are expected from OK, AR, TX and maybe other states. GriefShare to start up Aug 9

A new GriefShare group will be starting up on Wednesday, August 9 at 6 p.m. at the Checotah First Baptist Church. This program is free and open to all who are grieving the death of a loved one.

Texanna Ladies Crafters

The Texanna Ladies Crafters shop is located right across from Dawn’s Café on Texanna Road. Open Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Look for the Butterfly board and the little green alien in front of our store. Stop by and take a picture with your family. It’s free.

CLPS meetings/events at the Katy Depot

The Checotah Landmark Preservation Society conducts its monthly meeting the second Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Katy Depot on Paul Carr Drive. Those interested in joining CLPS are encouraged to come.

Heartland Heritage Museum & Gallery

The Heartland Heritage Museum and Gallery is full of activities and fun. From paint parties to selfguide tours in the gallery to various art classes for adults or children that can be scheduled.

Muscogee Nation Head Start accepting applications

The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Head Start is accepting applications for the 2023-2024 school year. There is no cost to families but the following documents are required: parent’s income verification; previous year’s income tax (front sheet only), pay stubs, W-2 form, TNF letter, SSI letter, SNAP documentation or statement from employer; child’s immunization record, medical card, citizenship card (if applicable) and birth certificate.

Free clothing closet

The First Freewill Baptist Church has a free clothes closet that is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. If anyone needs clothing or would like to donate clothing, please stop by.

Green County Cattlewomen meets monthly The Green County Cattlewomen meets the last Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at Watson Farms Meat Market in Checotah. For more information or to join, call 918-616-2526.

Lions Club meets biweekly

The Checotah Lions Club general meetings are at noon on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month. Lions meet at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall and would like to invite others to come join the Lions Club and help serve your community. Least of These Food Ministry has monthly distribution

The Least of These Food Ministry offers free grocery distributions to anyone in Checotah or the surrounding area who struggles with food insecurities. Participants must provide ID and proof of residency. Grocery distribution is the third Friday of each month at 2 p.m. at the First Assembly of God located at 401 N. Broadway.

Join the Chamber of Commerce General Meetings The Checotah Chamber of Commerce General Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at noon at the First United Methodist Hall. All Chamber members are encouraged to come.

Finding Hope offers support

Finding Hope is a support group for loved ones who have been impacted by addiction. Find education and inspiration during meetings on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at 6:30 p.m. at North Fork Baptist Church. Contact information: findinghopeeufaula@ gmail.com.
