Checotah claws past Preston 4-3 in Okmulgee Tournament

The Checotah Lady Wildcats earned a tough win late Saturday as they edged past Preston 4-3. The Checotah took the lead in the fourth inning when an error scored a run for the Lady Wildcats. Aurora Madewell led Checotah at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs. The Wildcats scored three runs in the fourth while defensively they allowed just one scored in the same inning. Hailey Prince earned the win from the pitcher’s circle as she allowed four hits and three runs over three innings while striking out three. Checotah improves to 7-5 overall. Katharine Anderson was 1-for-1 at the plate.

The Lady Wildcats dominated Gore in the early game at Okmulgee with a 14-1 run-rule win. Checotah scored four runs in the first and 10 more in the second to seal the 14-1 victory. Shaelynn Casey was 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate. Hailey Prince went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs, Katharine Anderson 2-for-2 with an RBI and Kami Hamm had a pair of RBIs.

In Thursday’s action, Checotah ended the day with a 9-2 win over Okmulgee. Layna Vandiver led Checotah at the plate with an exceptional day. She doubled in the first, singled in the second, singled in the fourth and singled in the fifth innings. Shaelynn Casey earned the win for the Lady Wildcats. She allowed one hit and two runs over five innings, striking out eight. Hailey Prince singled on the first pitch at bat, scoring a pair of runs.

Checotah tallied 15 hits in the game. Vandiver, Madewell, Maci Britt, Kora Hall and Prince each had multiple hits.

Warner topped Checotah in the opening game of the Okmulgee Tournament. The Eagles scored four runs in the first inning to defeat Checotah 5-1. Vandiver went 2-for-2 while Hailey Prince took the loss from the pitcher’s circle.

On Tuesday, Checotah rolled over Sallisaw 12-2 and shut out Meeker 13-0 on Monday. Casey was the winning pitcher in the game. She surrendered zero runs on zero hits over three innings, striking out eight and walking zero. Madewell led Checotah at the plate going 2-for-2.
