Get ready for a wild weekend of high-speed street racing and carnival fun in Checotah!
The Checotah Carnival and Hot Rod Weekend is set to take place from April 30 through May 3 at the Checotah Sports C omplex. Carnival
The carnival, brought by Sam’s Amusements, will kick off the weekend fun and go from Thursday, April 30 to Sunday, May 3, at the Checotah Sports Complex. The carnival will feature lots of rides, games and food, with unlimited ride armbands available for $30.
Times for the carnival are: Thursday 6 p.m.-10 pm. Friday 6 p.m.-10 p.m. Saturday 1 p.m.-5 p.m. and 5p.m.-10p.m.
Sunday 1 p.m.-5 p.m.
Burnout Contest & Cruise Night
The Hot Rod Weekend will include a car show, burnout contest and grudge matches.
Cruise Night is Friday, May 1 from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. on Gentry.
The Burnout Contest will also be Friday night starting at 7 p.m. at the CC Buggy Bath Car Wash at 800 N. Broadway. This is a free entry with cash prizes of $250 to the winner and $100 to the runner up. Come watch the smoke fly!
Car Show & Street Racing
A Car Show will take place Saturday, May 2 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.in the parking lot north of the Checotah First Free Will Baptist Church at 713 N. Broadway. There will be a $10 entry fee with awards for top two in each class, People’s Choice, City Council Choice, Best Engine Compartment and Best Paint. The Car Show is free to the public to come by and check out some awesome vehicles.
Also on Saturday, May 2 get ready to watch Street Racing! The Battle at Big Elk Creek will be one big competition this year at the Checotah Sports Complex. Bring your family and your lawn chair and head out to the sports complex to watch the drag racing starting at 11 a.m. on North Broadway Street.
There will be a general admission of $10 and everyone in the spectator area watching the drag racing MUST have a wristband and MUST sign a liability waiver. There will be barriers in place and spectators must stay behind the barriers at all times. Please remember this event involves very loud vehicles and a lot of spectators. Please leave all pets at home for their safety and keep children under adult supervision at all times.
