Lake Eufaula Disc Golf Alliance

Disc Golf League started Aug. 17 at Wetlands Disc Golf Course at 5:30 p.m. Each Thursday evening disc golfers will play 12 league rounds, one 18hole round per week. To sign up, call Curtis Hartshorn at 918-616-5967.

Oklahoma Retired Educators Association (OREA) to meet The McIntosh County Oklahoma Retired Educators Association (OREA) will hold their next meeting at 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 15, at the Jim Lucas Checotah Public Library.

All surrounding area retired school personnel are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting. For more information please contact Imogene Duvall at 918-473-2781.

Special Bingo Fundraiser on Oct. 7

Special BINGO Fundraiser for Maci Britt and Katelynn West for National Cheer Saturday, Oct. 7 at Checotah Community Center, 611 N. Broadway.

Doors open at 5 p.m. Bingo starts at 6 p.m. Cards are $5 each or 3 for $10 – Bring your own daubers.

There will be special games and concession stand will be available.

GriefShare program in progress

GriefShare classes are now in progress at 6 p.m. on Wednesday evenings at the Checotah First Baptist Church. These coping classes will continue for several weeks on the same day and at the same time. This program is free and open to all who are grieving the death of a loved one.

Lions Club meets biweekly

The Checotah Lions Club general meetings are at noon on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month. Lions meet at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall and would like to invite others to come join the Lions Club and help serve your community. Don’t forget about the 5th Annual Checotah Lions Club Charity Golf Tournament, on Friday, September 29 at Fountainhead Creek Golf Course.

Registration starts at 8 a.m. Shot Gun Start at 9 a.m.

Texanna Lady Crafters

The Texanna Lady Crafters shop is located right across from Dawn’s Café on Texanna Road. Open Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Look for the Butterfly board and the little green alien in front of our store. Stop by and take a picture with your family. It’s free.

CLPS meetings/events at the Katy Depot

The Checotah Landmark Preservation Society conducts its monthly meeting the second Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Katy Depot on Paul Carr Drive. Those interested in joining CLPS are encouraged to come. Volunteers are needed for Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Contact Jerri Holder at 918-473-2070 for more information.

Heartland Heritage Museum & Gallery

The Heartland Heritage Museum and Gallery is full of activities and fun. From paint parties to selfguide tours in the gallery to various art classes for adults or children that can be scheduled.

Muscogee Nation Head Start accepting applications

The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Head Start is accepting applications for the 2023-2024 school year. There is no cost to families but the following documents are required: parent’s income verification; previous year’s income tax (front sheet only), pay stubs, W-2 form, TNF letter, SSI letter, SNAP documentation or statement from employer; child’s immunization record, medical card, citizenship card (if applicable) and birth certificate.

DAV McIntosh County Chapter #3 meets monthly

Free clothing closet

The First Freewill Baptist Church has a free clothes closet that is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. If anyone needs clothing or would like to donate clothing, please stop by.

Green County Cattlewomen meets monthly

The Green County Cattlewomen meets the last Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at Watson Farms Meat Market in Checotah. For more information or to join, call 918-616-2526.

Least of These Food Ministry has monthly distribution

The Least of These Food Ministry offers free grocery distributions to anyone in Checotah or the surrounding area who struggles with food insecurities. Participants must provide ID and proof of residency. Grocery distribution is the third Friday of each month at 2 p.m. at the First Assembly of God located at 401 N. Broadway.

Join the Chamber of Commerce General Meetings

The Checotah Chamber of Commerce General Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at noon at the First United Methodist Hall. All Chamber members are encouraged to come.

Finding Hope offers support

Finding Hope is a support group for loved ones who have been impacted by addiction. Find education and inspiration during meetings on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at 6:30 p.m. at North Fork Baptist Church. Contact information: findinghopeeufaula@ gmail.com.
