Eufaula sweeps Morris in home opener
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

There is no other way of putting it: Eufaula physically demoralized the Morris Eagles boys in a 62-34 victory Friday night at Perry Anderson Gymnasium. Eufaula new head boys basketball coach Rob McKinzie was rotating players and quickly outcoached Morris. Eufaula was led by Maddox Bridges with 24 points but it was a total team win as Landon Mills dominated the paint. The 6’4” forward was physical and overpowering his opponents. The guards for the Ironheads (1-1) were outstanding as they constantly put pressure on the Eagles, forcing turnovers and grabbing rebounds. Jentry James, Ty Spears, Keaton Parish and Jaxon Lange hit from the perimeter and the paint, led 2111 after the first period and went on into the halftime break up 31-15.

The third period was all Eufaula outscoring Morris 19-11. The play of athletes coming off the bench played a huge factor in the game. Draven Gragg, Dusty Eby, Jace Davis and Spears did their part in the win.

Maddox Bridges had 24 pts, Landon Mills and Ty Spears each had seven points and Jaxon Lange finished with six points.

The Lady Ironheads (1-1) cruised to a 57-28 victory. Maddie Ballard led Eufaula with 13 points. Both teams battled it out in the opening minutes with Eufaula getting the edge with a 14-point period. Morris did a great job in the paint grabbing defensive rebounds early, but the Lady Ironheads slowly chipped away at the Lady Eagles. Eufaula led 20-18 at the halftime break. After a halftime speech from head coach Nick Yarbrough, the Lady Ironheads made adjustments and outscored Morris 22-3 in the third period. Allie Anderson and Kambry Williams forced multiple turnovers and Kate Pippenger, Jordas McClish, Jadence Efurd and Ballard did a wonderful job of closing shooting lanes and pushing the basketball upcourt. Ballard led Eufaula with 13 pts, Anderson 10 and Pippenger nine points.
