Fully armed, he came to Sheriffs Office for protection

A 34-year-old Dover, Delaware man entered the lobby of the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 25 and claimed someone was following him, was tracking him by cell phone and wanted to kill him.

Kerry Eugene Johnson Jr. told deputies he was afraid to leave the building.

Before all was said and done, Johnson was taken into custody on a weapons charge and Associate District Judge Brendon Bridges ordered him to return to district court at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Deputy Bradley Smith said Johnson told investigators “He met someone on a dating app (plenty of fish) and they have been trying to set him up and kill him.”

The distraught stranger asked to be placed in protective custody.

According to Johnson he left Oklahoma City on Jan. 25 and came to Eufaula, where he bought a new vehicle, a white Ford Ranger, because the old one was being tracked by some unknown party.

Bradley offered Johnson emergency medical services to evaluate him to make sure he was not having health issues.

“He refused,” Bradley said.

Bradley went outside to examine the truck and saw on the front seat a black rifle barrel and an adjustable stock with the upper and lower covered with a black bag, a semi-automatic assault rifle-type firearm.

Johnson claimed he got it from his aunt.

Johnson got into the truck and started to drive away but only went a short distance before returning and parking the vehicle.

Doing a background check on Johnson, Bradley said he learned the Dover man had a gun violence restraining order against him in San Diego.

A search warrant was obtained for Johnson’s truck and investigators found a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 rifle loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition; a Smith & Wesson SD9 VE pistol loaded with 14 rounds of 9 mm ammunition; a spare magazine for the pistol with 12 rounds; a Kara CW9 pistol with seven rounds of ammo; and one plastic bag containing 21 rounds of ammo.
