Eufaula searching for answers
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Eufaula Ironheads (8-10) were on the search for answers on how to close a hardfought game and earn that victory. On Friday, Eufaula fell to Kellyville 52-49 after leading the Ponies by six points with 5:49 left to play in the fourth period. Kellyville was able to hit their free throws after being fouled twice in the final minutes. The Ironheads had some missed opportunities in the paint and at the free throw line but battled hard.

Landon Mills and D raven Gragg defended the paint well but Kellyvilles perimeter shooting was on target. Mills led Eufaula with 13 points and Bridges added 11 points for the Ironheads. Ty Sparks and Dusty Eby each had good defensive games. When Sparks hits the floor he only has one speed – fast and in control. He brings a totally different style of basketball to the Ironheads and is a star in the making.

On Tuesday, the Morris Eagles outplayed the Eufaula Ironheads and earned a huge home win 60-47. Eufaula had multiple opportunities to win the game but the Eagles would catch up with the Ironheads. In the final minutes, Maddox Bridges received a technical foul and Morris took advantage to extend their lead at the free throw line. Ty Sparks, Keaton Parish and Dusty Eby had solid games for the Ironheads. The Ironhead big men of Draven Gragg and Landon Mills also had good games, rebounding the ball on both ends of the court.

Lady Ironheads continue to roll as they corral the Kellyville Ponies

The Eufaula Lady Ironheads (12-7) continued to roll in district action as they topped the Kellyville Ponies 42-37 at Perry Anderson Gymnasium in Eufaula. Both teams did a good job of feeling each other out with Eufaula taking the edge and led 11-8 at the end of the first period.

Kellyville did a fantastic job of keeping Eufaula senior Allie Anderson in check, only allowing her to score one point in the first half.

It was the play of Kate Pippenger that gave the Lady Ironheads the upper hand. Pippenger was dominant in the paint defensively and was the leading scorer for Eufaula with 15 points. She scored seven points in the first half.

Kellyville tried to rally with four threepointers in the first half but it was their lack of rebounding that cost them the game. Kambry Williams continued to show her skills as a perimeter shooter scoring ten points including a pair of three-pointers. Kellyville led 19-14 at the halftime break but rallied back in the second half outscoring the Ponies 27-18 to earn a tough victory. Jadence Efurd finished with five points and Anderson added eight points in the win.

Eufaula defeated the Morris Lady Eagles 44-41 on Tuesday. The No.14 ranked Lady Ironheads had to rally from behind 21-15 in the first half and came out the third period to score 15 points to the Lady Eagles three points.

“We didn’t play up to our standard in the first half but I thought we showed great courage in the second half and were able to move the ball up court with ease. We came together as a team and won the game,” Eufaula head coach Nick Yarbrough said.

Senior point guard Kambry Williams led all scorers with 18 points and Allie Anderson added 12 points in the win. Kate Pippnger and Jadence Efurd had an excellent game defending the paint.
