Lady Wildcats win slugfest against Beggs

The Checotah Lady Wildcats (9-8) defeated the Beggs Lady Golden Demons 21-20 Thursday at the Beggs Softball Festival. Checotah softball standout Hailey Prince had a huge day as she hammered a homerun in the seventh inning, scoring two runs, singled in the first inning scoring a run and hit a double in the third inning, scoring a run.

Beggs took a 2-1 lead in the first and a 4-0 lead to end the second inning but Checotah came alive in the third inning scoring five runs. Maci Britt hit a single that drove in a pair of runs to make the score 6-4 in the Lady Wildcats favor.

Beggs gave a great effort at the plate as they scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning to extend the lead 106. Checotah tied the game at the top of the fourth inning when Shyanne Madewell hit a triple and Kate Anderson hit a single.

Beggs regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Stella Howell hit a fielder’s choice that scored a run.

Checotah battled back as Layna Vandiver smashed a pitch for a double to give the Lady Wildcats a 12-11 lead. With the score 13-12 to start the seventh inning the Wildcats needed a run and they got it as they scored nine runs on eight hits in the seventh inning to take a 21-13 lead.

Beggs tried to rally but the Lady Wildcats play in both the infield and outfield secured the 21-20 win.

“This was a special game. I never have been a part of a game that totaled 41 runs. I’m so proud of this team and how they reacted to Beggs. A coach couldn’t be more proud than I am right now,” Checotah head coach Kory Bible said.

Kenadee Jones started the game from the pitcher’s circle for the Lady Wildcats. She allowed seven hits and 10 runs, striking out zero and walking 10. Addie Britt pitched four innings and gave up nine hits and 10 runs while striking out zero and walking eight.

Checotah tallied 19 hits in the game.

Vandiver finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs, Prince was 3-for-5 with four RBIs and a homerun, Madewell 2-for-4 with five RBIs, Maci Britt 3-for-5 with three RBIs, Makyah Black 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Sidney Hamilton went 3-for-4.

On Friday Checotah defeated the Seminole Chieftains 14-6. It was a close game with the score 4-3 after the first inning. Then The Lady Wildcats went on a hitting spree scoring seven runs in the second inning. It would be too much for Seminole to overcome as Checotah added two more runs in the third inning and another run in the fourth to seal the 14-6 win. Hailey Prince went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs, Maci Britt, Prince and Makyah Black each hit doubles in the game. Addie Britt started the game for the Lady Wildcats. The pitcher allowed just one hit and three runs over two innings.

Vandiver went 2-for-3, Madewell 2-for-3 with an RBI, Kat Anderson 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Maci Britt 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Checotah lost to the Lady Pirates 11-0 and Moss 8-0 on Friday. On Saturday Checotah fell to Strother 14-2. Kami Hamm led Checotah with 2-for-2, Maci Britt 1-for-2 with an RBI and Sidney Hamilton 1-for-2 with an RBI.
