Wildcats fall in Checotah Tournament
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Checotah Wildcats (10-18) fell to No. 15 Vian 8-6 on Friday. The Wildcats led 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning. The Wolverines would not let that last as they scored five runs to take a 5-2 lead in the second inning. Checotah tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the second to make it a 5-5 contest.

The Wildcats were holding their own until the fifth inning when Vian scored three runs to seal the win.

Checotah head coach Levi Walker saw Bryce Marshall lead the team at the plate going 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs.

On Monday, the Wildcats celebrated Senior Night as seniors Johna Marshall, Jacob Jones and Lane Elliott and their parents were honored in a pregame ceremony. Checotah found themselves in a cat fight with Okemah and fell short 8-7.

An early start doomed the Wildcats as Okemah scored five runs in the first inning. Checotah battled back by scoring a run in the second and put three runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning.

The Wildcats carried on a long tradition of having multiple sets of brothers on an athletic field. This year it was CHECÒTAH Jim and Mason Rainbolt, Jonah and Bryce Marshall and Dallas and Dalton Carter. Each has played a major role in the program.

With the game tied 5-5 going into the fifth inning Okemah took control and scored two runs after Stacy was hit by a wild pitch and another ground out with each scoring runs.

But still the Wildcats would not go away easily as Bryce Marshall tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning on a single. The next score came when a dramatic play at home plate came as the Wildcats’ catcher was called for interference giving Okemah an 8-7 in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Jacob Jones took the loss from the pitcher’s mound. He went four innings, surrendering five runs (four earned) on four hits, striking out six and walking two.

Jonah Marshall went 3-for-5 with a run scored, Mason Rainbolt 2-for-5 with an RBI and Bryce Marshall 1-for-3 with an RBI. Checotah accumulated 10 walks in the contest.
