Stilwell ends Checotah Baseball team’s season
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Stilwell Indians put an end to the Checotah Wildcat baseball season with a 11-7 victory on Wednesday. The Wildcats (10-21) failed to win their last four games as they struggled to find any rhythm at the plate. Stilwell took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Checotah bounced back, scoring a run in the second and third innings. A Wildcat error and a ground out by Juan Martinez put the Indians up 2-0. Stilwell added another score after Stryder Pritchettt was hit by a wild pitch by Mason Rainbolt of the Wildcats. Stilwell led 7-2 going into the sixth inning but Checotah rallied together in the dugout and came out swinging as they scored five runs to tie the game 7-7.

It all started as senior Jacob Jones hit a double, scoring a run, Mason Rainbolt whacked a triple that scored two runs, then Jim Rainbolt drew a walk, scoring a run, and Cole Wilhite induced Cale Thompson to hit into a fielders choice with a run scored.

The tie would not last long as Stiwell answered the call scoring four runs to seal the 11-7 victory. Checotah gave up a pair of doubles and a pair of singles as they watched their season slip away.

Mason Rainbolt was on the pitcher’s mound first for the Wildcats. He surrendered one hit and five runs (four earned) over two innings, striking out four and walking seven. Jacob Jones had to come in relief as Checotah head coach Levi Walker made the pitching change. Jones went four innings, giving up six runs (five earned) on nine hits, striking out five and walking one.

Mason Rainbolt led Checotah at the plate going 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored. Jonah Marshall 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, Jim Rainbolt l-for-2 with an RBI, Cale Thompson l-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, Jacob Jones l-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.

Stilwell accumulated 10 hits in the contest.

In game one on Wednesday Checotah fell to North Rock Creek 8-1. The Wildcats drew first blood as they took advantage of an error in the second inning but North Rock Creek (NRC) was hot at the plate as they scored three runs in the inning to take a 3-1 lead. The Cougars added to their lead as Braden Ueltzen was walked by Charles Collins. The Cougars roared in the fourth inning, scoring three more runs to seal the win. Colin Brown was on the mound for NRC. He surrendered four hits and one run over five innings, striking out an amazing 11 Wildcats and walking five.

Charles Collins took the mound first for Checotah. He allowed six hits and eight runs over five innings, striking out five and walking eight.

Carter Sisson took the loss for the Wildcats. He went two innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits striking out one with zero walks.

Mason Rainbolt and Charles Collins were 1-for-4 and senior first baseman Jonah Marshall went 1-for-3.

On Friday Checotah lost to Vian 8-6 and on Saturday Stilwell topped the Wildcats 10-2.
