Betty May Todd

Betty May Todd, 81, of Checotah, entered Heaven’s gates on Sunday, June 2, 2024. She was born on Tuesday, May 25, 1943, to William and Pearl (Applegate) Gamblin in Checotah. Betty grew up in Checotah and graduated from Checotah High School in 1961. During her senior year of high school, she married her one true love, George Franklin Todd.

Betty continued her education by attending Connors State College and Northeastern State University, graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor’s in English. Throughout her teaching career, she taught at Boynton, Indianola and Oktaha before her retirement in 1998.

Betty enjoyed traveling, spending time at the lake, reading, Facebook and tending her flower gardens. She loved cooking for her family and had a good sense of humor. Betty was a great confidant, very supportive, loving and kind. She loved her family and grandchildren dearly.

Betty was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Checotah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and brother, James Gamblin.

Betty is lovingly survived May 25, 1943 – June 2, 2024

by her daughter, Angela Reasor and her husband Todd; son, Michael Todd; granddaughter, Ashley Hackler and her husband Matt; grandson, Kevin Branscum; grandson, Zachary Todd and his wife Maekisha; grandson, Adam Todd, granddaughter, Briana Todd; great-grandchildren, Ember, Ryggen, Sam, Tayt, Maddy & Zadie; sister, Mary Spirlock and her husband Curtis; brother, Billy Gamblin all of Checotah.

Betty is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family, a lifetime of friends and host of foster children.

Services were held 10 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2024, at First Free Will Baptist Church of Checotah with Reverend Mark Shores ministering.

Committal prayers and interment followed in Greenlawn Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett.

Mark Matthew, Eli Matthews, Ethan Matthews, Carman Rainbolt, James Spears and Dalton Thomas served as Casket Bearers. Honorary Casket Bearers were James Wood, Claxton Todd, Donald Luke and Steve Underwood.
