Waco Derrick

Waco Derrick, 66, of Guymon passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at his home.

The son of L.C. and Leola L. (Henderson) Derrick, Waco was born Feb. 15, 1958 in Checotah, Oklahoma. He was raised in Checotah and attended school, graduating from Checotah High School with the Class of 1976. He was a member of the Checotah Church of Christ.

Waco has been a resident of Guymon for the past 40 plus years, where he made many friends. He worked as a diesel mechanic, collision repair technician and a tow truck driver. He enjoyed making nylon belts, working with leather, working on cars and riding his bicycle/ scooter.

He was preceded in death by his father, L.C. Derrick; two sisters, Veaster Searcy and Claudia Derrick; and step-daughter, Tiffany Jones.

Survivors include his mother, Leola Derrick of Checotah; brother, Earnest Peeples of Lubbock, TX; sister, Carmaleta Derrick of Oklahoma City; brother, Jimmy Derrick (Mellisa) of Moore, OK; sister, Jewell Benson of Checotah; step-daughter, Taniel Jones and her children of Guymon; special friends, the Keimig family of Guymon; along with numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A celebration of Waco’s life was held Wednesday morning, July 17 at 11 a.m. at the Victory Center, 2032 S. Hwy 64 in Guymon with Pastor Margaret Mendenhall officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Paradise Cemetery in Checotah.

Memorials in memory of Waco can be made to the OPSU Rodeo Team and will be accepted at Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, Oklahoma 73942. Friends can sign the online guestbook and leave condolences at www. bunchroberts.com.
