CFAE help kickoff the new school year
By LADONNA RHODES STAFF WRITER

Checotah Education Foundation stuffed snack sacks for all the school employees returning to school this past week and were part of their kick-off meeting.

CFAE handed out Teacher Grant checks totaling $5,900 to 16 Checotah Public School educators to help enrich the educational life of CPS students.

CFAE also, for the first time ever, awarded Welcoming Grants to six CPS educators. These six individuals are new to the teaching profession this year and CFAE awarded $100/ each to help purchase items to establish their new classrooms.

CFAE is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization focused on aiding and promoting Checotah Public School educators and their students. CFAE was incorporated February 20, 2001 and is still going strong today.

In the past 23 years CFAE has given grants to CPS educators totaling over $115,996 which does not include the current grants given.

Teachers can apply each year for an amount not to exceed $500. The criteria used to judge applications are:

• Creativity

• Collaboration

• Enhancement of the learning process

• Number of students involved

• Meeting the goals of CFAE

The goals of CFAE are not to just provide additional funding to help students and teachers, but to encourage the community and businesses to become involved in supporting the school system.

CFAE is guided by a board of directors that operates separately from the public school system but foundation membership is open to all interested persons. Current Board of Directors include: President Mike Stidham, Vice President Kittie Dishman, Secretary Patsy Mann, Treasurer Donna Sharpe, Mitch Myers, DeLois McGee, Imogene Duvall, Sharlene Eddy, Kathy Cox, Betty Barrett, Jim Barrett, Wilmatine Griffin, Jackie Farmer, Tami Duvall, Theresa Buckmaster and Bret Hayes.

Simply mail a check to: CFAE, Inc. P. O. Box 44 Checotah, OK 74426 Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and go to help fund local education.
