Keep Oklahoma Beautiful launches annual ‘Every Litter Bit Hurts’ Campaign

Oklahoma City — Every Litter Bit Hurts and the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful (KOB) Litter Education Program is spreading the message to Oklahoma students in public, private, and homeschool institutions.

Exciting changes to increase environmental impact have been made to each contest, and a new tshirt design contest has been added.

These contests are an opportunity for educators, parents, and community members to engage Oklahoma youth in creative and educational activities that promote cleaner and more sustainable habits that help to keep Oklahoma beautiful.

All finalists will be honored at Keep Oklahoma Beautiful’s inaugural Student Environmental Champions Awards at the OKC Zoo in 2025.

High school and college students qualify for $1,200 scholarships.

The UnCapped Art Contest encourages elementary students to take an active role in preserving the environment by recycling. Students are to collect caps from plastic bottles and containers and use them to create a work of art.

The UpCycled Invention Contest encourages middle school students to reduce waste by reusing items rather than sending trash to landfills.

Students create functional inventions by giving new life to discarded items and reusing them.

Photos of the artwork and inventions for both contests are posted to an online voting site and the public votes for their favorites.

The participating students for UnCapped and UpCycled also write an essay describing what they learned throughout the program.

The End Litter Video Contest challenges high school and college students to tackle the issue of litter and illegal dumping by creating a 30-45 second video that conveys littering is costly, deplorable, and illegal.

Students write a short essay that details the inspiration for their video. Finalists for the high school and college divisions will have their video uploaded to an online voting page for the public to vote on their favorite.

Winners will receive a $1,200 cash scholarship and have their video clip appear across the internet sparking a campaign to encourage personal responsibility as the foundation for keeping Oklahoma beautiful. Video submissions must be received by December 31.
