Checotah Lady Wildcats cruise in Okmulgee Tournament
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR,

The Checotah Lady Wildcats (11-4) continue to tally up victories in fast-pitch softball. Checotah shut out Mounds 5-0 on Friday, to close out the tournament. Checotah head coach Levi Walker had to be pleased with his pitcher Shaelynn Casey. Casey finished with 11 strikeouts and allowed only one hit in six innings in the victory. Aurora Madewell went 3-for-3 and Hailey Prince had a pair of RBIs.

The fifth inning was fantastic for the Wildcats as Shyanna Madewell and Aurora Madewell each hit a single that scored a run. Those two big plays were followed by Prince smashing a pitch for a home run that scored two runs.

The Lady Wildcats continued to win as they topped Wilson 4-3. With the game tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning, sophomore Layna Vandiver whacked a pitch for a double that scored the winning run. Hailey Prince earned the win from the pitcher’s circle as she allowed only three runs in five innings, striking out six and walking three.

Aurora Madewell, Vandiver, Casey, and Shyanne Madewell each collected one hit for the Lady Wildcats.

The Checotah Lady Wildcats scored 17 runs in the first inning, which helped them defeat Liberty, 19-0 on Saturday. Hailey Prince had a huge game as she earned the win from the pitcher’s circle. Prince allowed only one hit in two innings with five strikeouts. Kenadee Jones, Aurora Madewell, Shaelynn Casey and Prince each drove in two runs.

Checotah routed Okmulgee 7-0 scoring five runs in the first inning. Shaelynn Casey picked up the win as she tossed a two-hitter ball game with nine strikeouts over five innings. Sydnie West hit a triple in the top of the third inning to seal the victory. West went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and Casey finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.

“I’m excited about this team. They compete at a high level and never give up. They play as a unit and it’s great to see them grow as athletes. We have a lot to learn still but they’re getting better with each game,” Checotah head coach Levi Walker said.

On Monday the Poteau Lady Pirates got a big road win after defeating Checotah 8-1. The Lady Wildcats (11-4) struggled at the plate while Poteau collected 10 hits in the game. Emma Hackler earned the win for the Lady Pirates. She allowed two hits and one run in seven innings, striking out an impressive 17 and walking just two.

Hailey Prince took the loss for Checotah. Prince went four innings, surrendering eight runs on seven hits, striking out seven and walking four. Kami Hamm led Checotah at the plate going 2-for-3.
