Ironheads cage Stigler Panthers
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Eufaula Ironheads (2-5, 1-3 in District 3A-3) dominated the Stigler Panthers 36-7 at Stigler Thursday night. Eufaula junior quarterback Ledger Folsom led the way for the Ironheads. Folsom went 5-of-14 for 98 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. Folsom also ran for 85 yards on 23 carries for a touchdown.

The Ironheads bounced back from their loss to Holland Hall last week to rush for 214 yards on 42 attempts.

They also had 15 first downs and finished with 316 total offensive yards.

“I’m really proud of how we played tonight. We had a good week of practice and our guys responded well. I thought our defense played its best game tonight. We limited our penalties and offensively we moved the football well against Stigler. I’m excited and very proud of this team and our staff. They have put in the work and it paid off tonight,” Eufaula Head coach Larry Newton said.

The Ironheads only committed six penalties for 60 yards. This was by far their best game for limiting penalties.

Eufaula’s defense was outstanding as they held the Panthers to just 198 total yards with 103 coming on the ground and 89 passing yards.

Eufaula scored first when Folsom ran the football in from the five-yard line to take a 7-0 lead in the second quarter. Luke Hodgins scored a second touchdown as the senior rumbled in from 9 yards out to extend the lead 14-0 at the halftime break.

Stigler finally found the end zone when they threw a 6-yard strike to close the score 14-7.

Folsom would answer the call as he found Doltyn Lane for a 32yard touchdown. The Pat was no good. Senior Maddox Bridges scored the next Eufaula touchdown as bolted 52 yards for the score. Bridges displayed his speed and toughness throughout the game.

In the fourth quarter Folsom threw a laser to Elijah Holley for a 24 yard touchdown to seal the victory.

Senior defensive back Dresden Chiles led the Ironheads defensively and finished the game with a forced fumble on a kickoff return, two punt blocks and an interception.

Eufaula will host Idabel Friday night at Paul Bell stadium on Senior Night.
