Area runners punch ticket to State
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

Several area cross-country runners punched their ticket to the State meet to be held at Edmond Santa Fe Saturday, November 2. Checotah and Eufaula cross-country teams competed in the Class 4A Regional meet in Henryetta on Saturday and will both represent McIntosh County in the meet.

Eufaula freshman Baylor Bohannon placed 24th out of 124 participants with a time of 18:41.79 and will represent the Ironheads in Saturdays event.

“I’m really proud of Baylor for making state. He is one of the hardest working kids on the team. Even though he is a freshman, I feel like his attitude and work ethic have had a big impact on the team this year,” Eufaula head coach Derek Gray said.

Ruby and Ruthy Folkner will represent Checotah in the State meet. Ruthy Folkner placed 21st with a time of 13:56.39 and Ruby placed 23rd with a time of 13:59.14 out of a field of 100.

“These girls have led the way forward for our crosscountry program. The way they push and cheer for each other is amazing. They have been ideal competitors and scholars. Twice each have qualified for the state tournament in their four years of competing in cross-country,” Checotah head coach Wes Cloud said.
