Checotali woman arrested followingwild pursuit
By JERRY FINK MANAGING EDITOR

A former employee of the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Department and Checotah Police Department faces multiple felonies following an erratic pursuit through Checotah by lawmen.

Emma Lee Ellison, 34, a Checotah resident, is being held on $100,000 bond at the McIntosh County Detention Center.

A pre-preliminary hearing conference is set for 9 a.m., Jan. 14.

Ellison is charged with endangering others while eluding/attempting to elude police; running a roadblock; battery/assault and three counts of battery on a police officer.

She also is charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault and battery.

Ellison reportedly worked in law enforcement several years ago.

Ellison was arrested on Dec. 6, 2024 and charged with the offenses on Dec. 10.

Associate District Judge Brendon Bridges entered a not guilty plea on her behalf.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by McIntosh County Deputy Bradley Smith, the deputy saw a black, four-door vehicle traveling south on South Broadway in Checotah at a high rate of speed and continued to accelerate after passing the officer, who gave pursuit.

County and Checotah officers continued to chase Ellison, according to reports, as she sped through school zones and passed several cars, forcing some off the road.

“The vehicle turned around at the (auto) dealership south of Checotah and went north on South Broadway,” said the report.

Police Chief Darren Glover blocked the road but the vehicle went around him and continued through downtown, passing vehicles at high rates of speed, forcing many vehicles off the road, according to the affidavit.

“The vehicle came to a stop in the parking lot of Voss’s Veterinary Clinic north of Checotah.. (I) ordered the driver out of the vehicle and she refused. (I) attempted to pull the driver out of the vehicle on the driver’s side but the occupant physically resisted by pulling away and kicking (me) several times,” Smith reported.

The driver was pulled out on the driver’s side of the vehicle and was restrained according to Smith.

“When she was taken to the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office, she kicked two deputies when they opened the door to get her out of the vehicle,” Smith said.
