Jim Lucas Checotah Public Library News

The new year represents an opportunity for us all to rewrite our stories, and the library has ever ything you need to begin making revisions.

If you resolved to learn a musical instrument, we have local blues legend Selby Minner teaching guitar lessons starting Jan. 16. Learn from Selby every week at 4 p.m. on Thursdays.

If 2025 is your year to get fit, we offer exercise classes that are ideal for seniors or those with mobility issues. Our SAIL fitness class meets at 1 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, and Tai Chi meets at 11 a.m. on Thursdays.

If you want to flex your creative muscles, check out our evolving Dungeons & Dragons (DND) programs. DND is a tabletop roleplaying game involving cooperative storytelling in the fantasy genre. Our group for teens and young adults meets at 4:30 p.m. on Fridays. A group for adults is in development. If you are interested in joining, please reach out to us by phone, e-mail, social media, or in-person.

As always your library has story time for toddlers and kids begins at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. every Tuesday.

The library hosts a recurring Pinterest Party for those interested in developing their arts and crafts skills. Every month is a new opportunity to practice your crafting skills. This month we are designing a winterthemed vase.

We are also offering monthly movie nights, featuring family-friendly movies and freshlypopped popcorn. Be sure to catch the next one in February!

Our monthly book club presents a chance to take in new stories and share ideas with new friends. This month’s meeting is at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16.

If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed, join us for a Cozy Day on Jan, 14 for some mid-month self-care. The dress code for the day is comfy pajamas. From 4:30-5:30 p.m., we will observe a “sensory hour” with a dedicated space for a quiet and calm environment.

For more information about our services, events, and programs at the Jim Lucas Checotah Public Library, please visit us at eols.org/checotah and follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

Heath Allen is the library assistant for the Jim Lucas Checotah Public Library, a branch of the Eastern Oklahoma Library System. Contact Allen at hallen@ eols.org.
