Edmond North high school girls wrestling programs have been suspended for the rest of the 2024-25 season for what the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association called “two egregious acts of unsportsmanlike conduct.”
The girls’ wrestling team at Edmond North placed second in the last two Class 6A state tournaments and was ranked third before its scheduled match with No. 1 Broken Arrow on Tuesday was postponed following the alleged incidents.
“In accordance with OSSAA Board Policy V, the girls wrestling program at Edmond North High School has been suspended for the remainder of the season following two egregious acts of unsportsmanlike conduct during two different wrestling events,” the organization said in a statement. “This decision was made after the school received a formal warning following the first violation, as outlined in our policy. This policy has been in place for the past three years, and this is the first time we have had a team commit two egregious acts in the same season.”
Edmond North will appeal the decision at the next regularly scheduled OSSAA board meeting on Feb. 12, the association said.
The decision to suspend the girls’ team could ultimately help Broken Arrow win a state title, since Broken Arrow is ranked first, followed by Bixby at No. 2 and Edmond North at No. 3.
