Democrats Capture Every Office from Mayor To Alderman

Checotah democrats cleaned the platter Tuesday in a manner which fairly took the opposition off their feet and during the coming year democrats will occupy every office from mayor down excepting two aldermen, one from the Frist ward and one from the Second, who are holdovers.

Lost All By Fire

The house on the J.E. Bahnsen farm east of the city occupied by Isaac Boyd was destroyed by fire Tuesday.

The flames were under such headway when discovered that all efforts to extinguish it were unavailing and but little of Mr. Boyd’s household goods were saved.

A subscription paper is being circulated to partially reimburse Mr. Boyd for the loss he has sustained and is being liberally signed.

Death of a Child

William Edward, the 22-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Vandiver, died at the home of its parents in this city Monday afternoon following an attack of the croup.

The McIntosh County Stockmen and Breeders Association will hold a meeting on Saturday, Jan. 31 at the county court house in Checotah for the election of officers and the transaction of other important business.

Local Grid Players to Present Minstrel

A minstrel show depicting hardships in a penitentiary chain gang, and which has been described as a hilarious presentation from beginning to end, will be staged by former football players of Checotah high school on Thursday night Feb. 1, under the direction of Miss Claire Harrison.

New Jail Design “Tweaked” By Sheriff

Now that the voters of McIntosh County have given their collective thumbs-up on a new county jail, Sheriff Terry Jones said that groundbreaking on the state-of-the-art facility could be as soon as six months away.

“We’re talking with the architect, and we might be breaking round in six months. But we’re still going over things at this point, getting everything lined up right,” said Jones.

Eufaula grad shares vision with Checotah Chamber James Floyd said it’s great to be back in McIntosh County as he spoke to the Checotah Chamber of Commerce during its monthly meeting.

His friend, Bill Frame of Checotah, who asked him to come to the meeting, introduced Floyd, director of the Jack D. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Muskogee.

Although a Eufaula High School graduate, Emmy Stidham, a chamber member, pointed out that Floyd was wearing a blue tie in honor of Checotah’s school colors.

“Some of my best friends are in Checotah,” Floyd said.
