Checotah City Council honor 25-year employees and recognize Checotah FOP

In their February City Council meeting the City of Checotah honored two 25-year employees.

Mayor Tarkington presented a certificate and pin to Andy Burnett for 25 years of service and Police Chief Darren Glover presented a certificate and pin to Police Officer Rick Smith for 25 years of service, to which he smiled and stated he had been with them for 32 years.

Then the meeting continued with Councilman Earnest Myers,, Councilman Jay Hayes,, Councilman Joey Marion,, Councilman Ronnie Brinsfield, Councilman William Wiles,, Councilman Tony Fields,, Councilwoman Jodi Greenleaf and Councilman Mike Key approving the following:

A. Approval of Minutes from January 13,, 2025,, Regular Meeting of the City Council and January 27, 2025, Special City Council Meeting.

B. Approval of Salaries for January 2025 in the amount of $175,394.24.

C. Approval of Estimated Salaries for February 2025 in the amount of $185,000.00.

D. Approval of claims for January 2025 in the amount of $397,565.19. .

A motion was made and approved to appoint Linda Burns as Recorder/ Advisor for the Checotah Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment…

A motion was to keep the current seats of Ms. Lindsey Moak-Grigg and Ms. Vickie Patterson for the 2025 Trustee Election for Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group (OMAG) and was approved.

A motion was made and approved on submitting the March 7, 2025, payroll to PNB on Wednesday instead of Thursday due to payroll clerk being out of the office on Thursday.

A motion was made and carried for the City Attorney to draw up a deed for Mayor Tarkington to sign deeding the Z Property to the Checotah Industrial Development Authority (CIDA).

No action was taken on questions concerning overtime.

No action was taken on vacating the north and south alley of Block 52.

No action was taken on vacating the east and west alley of Block 46. .

No action was taken on CARDS trash service.

Council then went into executive session for almost one hour with Chief Glover and a guest attorney. == When council came back a motion was made and approved to recognize Checotah Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) as a collective bargaining agent for Checotah Police Dept. upon receiving proof of the majority of the officers agreeing to designate Mayor Daniel Tarkington and Chief Darren Glover as bargaining agents.
