Berryhill defeats Eufaula in season opener
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Berryhill Chiefs defeated the Eufaula Ironheads 8-0 on Monday. The Chiefs started to jump out on top with an error by the Ironheads. The Ironheads (0-3) struggled offensively at the plate while Berryhill extended their lead with three runs in the bottom of the third.

Hayden Robinson took the loss for Eufaula Varsity Ironheads. The starter went three and two-thirds innings, giving up seven runs (zero earned) on five hits, striking out four and walking four.

Luke Hodgins, Dawson Hughes, Hayden Robinson, Connor McAllister, and Richie Beaver each collected one hit for Eufaula Varsity Ironheads. Eufaula Varsity Ironheads turned one double play in the game.

“We have got to do better in all phases of the game. I know it’s early but we have to get better prepared as a team if we are going to compete at a high level,” Eufaula head coach Josh Luna said.

The Chiefs continued their winning way in game two as they topped Eufaula 9-0. Berryhill scored one run in the first, third and fifth innings before blowing the doors off with three runs in the sixth and seventh innings. The Ironheads continued to struggle at the plate.

Senior pitcher Carson Luna took the loss for the Ironheads. He went four innings, giving up two runs on zero hits, striking out two and walking six.

Dawson Hughes went 1-for-1 from the plate and Connor McAllister went 1-for-2 for Eufaula.

On Friday, the Hilldale Hornets defeated Eufaula 13-5. Eufaula started the game with Connor McAllister walked and Jax Williams hitting a sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 lead. The Hornets rallied in the bottom of the first inning scoring four runs including a run on a wild pitch.

The Ironheads battled back with a single from Hayden Robinson and a ground ball by senior Connor McAllister to tie the game at 4-4. But Hilldale would get hot at the plate, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second to take a 7-4 lead.

Hilldale’s pitching held the Ironheads scoreless in the third inning while they scored six runs to take a 13-4 lead.

Dawson Hughes took the loss for Eufaula at the pitcher’s mound. He went two innings, allowing seven runs on two hits, striking out two and walking four. McAllister led Eufaula at the plate going 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

Luke Hodgins was 1-for-2.
