Luches Warrior chosen as McIntosh County Democrat’s Citizen of the Year
By LADONNA RHODES STAFF WRITER

Another successful Chamber Banquet was held this year with many businesses in attendance and outstanding members like Luches Warrior being recognized as Mc-Intosh County Democrat’s Citizen of the Year. Though Warrior could not attend this year due to illness his family accepted the award for him and took it to him where he proudly displayed it on the hospital wall.

General Manager Shauna Belyeu announced Warrior as this year’s recipient as she read the following statement: “As your local newspaper, we have the job of covering local news day in and day out as we cover things that matter to you.

“Tonight, we have the privilege of celebrating an exceptional individual whose generosity and heart for service have made a lasting impact on our community.

This year, when we think about what it truly means to be Citizen of the Year, we are thinking of someone who leads with quiet compassion, gives selflessly to make his community a better place and knows the real spirit behind being a good neighbor. He has opened his home, property and pocketbook to those in need.

“This year’s recipient is a man who embodies the spirit of Checotah, the spirit of hard work, kindness and community. He has never sought recognition for his efforts, but tonight we shine a light on the contributions he has made.

“He is no stranger to hard work and has taught his family to do the same. He represents the best of what it means to be a good neighbor and a friend, always taking the time to help a person in need while never seeking anything in return.

“Through the years he has made a commitment to the children of our community. Year after year, he has dedicated his time and resources to ensuring that no child goes without a little extra joy during the holiday season. If you have ever been to any parade, you have most definitely seen him riding his old horse, Tex, and sporting his blue and white-Checotah colors.

“Through his leadership and generosity, along with the unwavering support of his group, The Rough Riders, he has helped organize and contribute to the annual McIntosh County Children’s Toy Drive, bringing countless smiles to the faces of our youngest residents for decades.

“Tonight, we honor a man whose heart is as big as his hometown, a man who gives without hesitation and has helped people from coast to coast, making us proud! While he can’t be with us tonight, his precious family is here to accept on his behalf and present it to him.

“It is with great pride that I announce, Luches Warrior as the 2025 Mc-Intosh County Democrat Citizen of the Year!”

Warrior is the proud father of four children, and also has seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

The Chamber of Commerce chose Cross Communications as their Member of the Year and the City of Checotah as their Booster of the Year.

The City of Checotah also won the tablescape competition this year with its Gentry and Broadway theme.

Meloney Brown was also recognized for her years of service on the board as she is stepping down this year.

The banquet was catered by Rosanne’s and served by the Checotah FFA students.
