The end of college sports is here with the transfer portal. I brainstormed and wondered why would anyone give a $125,000 scholarship and a chance to graduate from a reputable university to someone who can jump into the transfer portal. In today’s college sports, especially football, the university no longer holds the cards. It’s the athletes and their agents. Instead of automatically giving them a scholarship, why don’t universities make the athlete pay for at least two years of admittance fees to start the college process? This would change the way some athletes approach the system. At the present time athletes hold out for more money after already agreeing to a set sum.

If the athlete is signing a million dollar NIL deal why should the university offer a free scholarship? That is one of the problems now. Athletes have not faced the issue of having to pay for anything. It’s take-take-take.

I have been fortunate to have toured the Barry Switzer Center in Norman. It is an amazing facility and great to see exactly what these athletes get for free, such as wonderful meals, clothing and now money. Why would an athlete leave such a place? Only they can answer that. But the days of athletes being loyal to a program is sadly over.
