Checotah to host a full weekend of carnival fun and more

Checotah will host a full weekend of fun with a carnival and many more activities happening all over town.

The Checotah Carnival is set up at the Checotah Sports Complex and will start Thursday night and go through Sunday.

The Carnival hours of operation are:

Thursday, May 1 from 6-10 p.m.

Friday, May 2 from 6-10 p.m.

Saturday, May 3 from 1-10 p.m.

Sunday, May 4 from 1-5 p.m.

Unlimited ride armbands will be $30. Individual ride tickets will also be available for $1, each ride is 3-5 tickets apiece.

Sam’s Amusements has 26 rides for all ages as well as games and great carnival food. Check out their website at samsamusements.com.

The Hot Rod Weekend Cruise Night and Burnout Contest will be from 6-10 p.m. on Friday, May 2. The Burnout Contest begins at 7 p.m. at 810 N Broadway and is free to enter.

There will be prizes for the main winner and runner up, but do your best burnout the first time because it’s one and done this year! Singer Colton Burris will also be on stage!

On Saturday at 8 a.m. get your running shoes on and join “May the Course Be With You.” Participants can dress as their favorite character and join in the 5K or 1-mile Fun Run at the Checotah Sports Complex.

Then come on down to Veterans Park from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. for Art and Bark in the Park hosted by Heartland Heritage Museum and Gallery. There will be food for sale: hot dogs, chips, and soda. Come see a lot of cool art work and bring your pooch to enter in the “Waggiest Tail” contest and fashion show at noon. There will be Wild Flower Photography, paw print art, doggie costumes and backdrops for pictures plus live music.

Trends & Treasures will also be hosting fun at their shop from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. with local makers of soap, baked goods, crochet, and handmade items.

Battle at Big Elk Creek Street Race will begin at noon. $10 spectator fee.
