Checotah Lady Wildcats’ season ends against powerful Pryor Tigers
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Checotah Lady Wildcats (4-14) fought hard but couldn’t hold off a red-hot Pryor Tigers team, falling 12-1 in game three on Wednesday and closing the season with a courageous effort.

Pryor wasted no time, exploding for a five-run first inning fueled by clutch hits and a couple of costly errors. Kenzi Bennett ignited the rally with a key RBI single, followed by Nevaeh Chupp’s two-run single. Zariah Diaz hammered a double to bring another run across, and Kiera Ballou grounded out to score yet another.

The Tigers kept their foot on the gas pedal in the second inning, pouring in six more runs. Peyton Jackson electrified the crowd with a solo shot to center field. Coda Taylor, Nevaeh Chupp, and Zariah Diaz all delivered RBI hits, while Checotah miscues added two more unearned runs.

Checotah’s highlight came in the fourth inning when Layna Vandiver crushed a solo homer to center, giving the Lady Wildcats something to celebrate. Vandiver led the way at the plate, going 1-for-2 with the team’s only RBI.

On the mound, Coda Taylor was steady for Pryor, tossing four innings and allowing just one hit while striking out two. Makyah Black battled valiantly for Checotah, but the Tigers’ relentless Tigers offense proved too much, as she gave up 12 runs (eight earned) on 12 hits over three and twothirds innings.

Nevaeh Chupp had a monster day for Pryor, going a perfect 3-for-3 and driving in three runs. Kenzi Bennett, Zariah Diaz, and Peyton Jackson also collected multiple hits, powering Pryor’s 12-hit attack. Patient at the plate, the Tigers drew five walks to keep the pressure on.

Game 1: Lady Wildcats light up Sperry

Checotah opened the day with a thrilling 13-5 win over Sperry. The Lady Wildcats caught fire in the fourth inning, erupting for four runs. Shyanne Madewell delivered a two-run single, and Layna Vandiver sent the crowd into a frenzy with a tworun blast to left field.

Hailey Prince put an exclamation point on the victory in the sixth, smashing a three-run homer. Makyah Black earned the win in the circle, grinding through seven innings while allowing five runs and striking out one.

Game 2: Pryor soars past Checotah In their second matchup, Pryor continued their offensive fireworks, soaring to a dominant 16-2 win over Checotah. The Tigers earned 10 runs in the fourth inning alone, putting the game away early in just four innings.
