Local anglers make it a family affair
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

Sean and Patty McAllister moved their family to Lake Eufaula in 2009. Having grown up in Wilburton, Sean fished Lake Eufaula with his dad for years and soon fishing became the sport he loved and would teach his sons Connor and Fischer.

The future was and still is bright for the McAllister family as his oldest son Connor and teammate Ayden Ford won the Oklahoma High School Fishing Bass Tournament on the Arkansas River with a total of 22.16 pounds representing the Muddy Water Mob High School team.

In that same tournament in the Junior High Division, Fischer McAllister and teammate Westyn Ford placed 4th with a total of 13.11 pounds.

“I’m so proud of my sons and both these teams and the junior high coach and boat captain Steven Whitaker. They put in the time and put up with some bad weather at times but they continue to get better with each event and they really enjoy fishing,” Sean McAllister said.

Both Connor and Fischer are standout athletes at Eufaula with Connor (a senior) being part of the semi-final Ironhead team in football playing both offensive and defensive line and a baseball player. Fischer, an eighth grader, standing 6’, 2”, is a great baseball player that has the ability to play multiple positions. Both boys juggle schoolaffiliated sports as well as fishing and have been successful at it. The team also placed second at Lake Hudson.

“We couldn’t do this without the help of my dad (coach) and boat captain,” Connor McAllister said. Sean McAllister competed in the BASS Nation event on Lake Eufaula and finished in 17th place out of 200 with the Top 20 anglers getting to compete in BASS Nation Championship in Lacrosse, Wisconsin on the Mississippi River October 24-26.

The top three anglers in that tournament qualify for the 2026 Bassmasters Classic.

“Patty and I love Eufaula. That’s why we moved here before taking over the State Farm office here. Our kids love it here and all of us have made so many friends. Eufaula is a special place for the McAllister family,” Sean McAllister said.

Connor and Ayden competed in the 2025 Eufaula Northern Trail Event over the weekend placing 17th overall out of nearly 144 boats. The event was won by Fort Gibson followed by Liberty/ Morris and Cherokee County Anglers to round out the top three teams.

Connor and Ayden continue to lead in Angler of the Year in points. The top 2 in points at the end of the season are invited to the High School National Championship on Grand Lake later this year.
