End of watch for Le-Flore County Sheriff’s Deputy Thomas “Walker” LeMay came Sunday, April 19, just two days past his 30th birthday. He was killed in the line of duty when ambushed by a coward. He leaves behind a young daughter and lots of loving family members and friends, including his brothers and sisters in the law enforcement community. His funeral was held Thursday, attended by hundreds from across our area.
Also wounded in this ambush was Wister Police Chief William “Andy” Thompson.
As someone who has worn the badge and served alongside law enforcement deputies and officers in this region, such tragedy and loss hits a little too close to home. My prayers are certainly with Chief Thompson and the grieving family members and friends of Deputy LeMay. I’m thankful for the quick action of other law enforcement who apprehended the man accused in this shooting. I hope for justice to the full extent of the law.
Such news never gets easier to bear, but I’m thankful for all who work every day at sacrifice to themselves to keep the rest of us safe.
