Owasso’s boys basketball head coach Brian Montonati resigns after nine seasons.
Montonati led Owasso to five Class 6A state tournament berths in the past six seasons, including the 2024 state title and two semifinal appearances. He was named the Tulsa World’s state coach of the year in 2024. His overall record is 177-65.
Montonati, 49, announced his departure in the following social media post Monday night: “My love for Owasso Ram basketball runs deep and always will. After a lot of reflection, I’ve decided it’s time for me to step down from the program I’ve poured my heart and soul into for the past 9 years. What we’ve accomplished at Owasso has exceeded anything I could have imagined from the program’s first State Championship in 2024, to competing at the City of Palms and earning a national ranking, to the many district, regional, area and state tournament runs along the way.
“None of it would have been possible without the incredible players we’ve been able to be blessed to coach. I’m proud of the brotherhood we built and grateful for the coaches who became family. To my family, thank you for your sacrifices and for making this journey so special. I couldn’t have done it without each of you. I love you.
“Being the Head Basketball Coach at Owasso has been one of the greatest honors of my career. I will always carry Ram pride in my heart.”
