Byng ends Lady Ironheads’ season
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR,

The Eufaula Lady Ironheads (6-13) came out swinging, but a powerful surge from Byng proved too much as the Lady Pirates claimed a 14-2 win in the third game on Wednesday, bringing Eufaula’s season to a close.

Eufaula wasted no time setting the tone. In the top of the first, the Lady Ironheads struck first when Abby Box put the ball in play, allowing a run to cross and giving Eufaula an early 1-0 edge. It was the kind of gritty start that has defined this team all season.

But Byng answered and answered quickly.

The Lady Pirates flipped the momentum in the bottom of the first, erupting for five runs on five hits to seize a 5-1 lead. The inning’s turning point came off the bat of Sophia Townsend, whose triple to the gap drove in two runs and ignited the Byng offense.

Byng kept its foot on the gas in the second, adding six more runs on a flurry of hits. Avyn Johnson scored on a tagup, while Piper Presley and Pepper Presley each delivered RBI singles. Kadi Graham powered a two-run double, and Townsend struck again with another RBI hit, pushing the lead out of reach.

The Lady Pirates continued to pile on in the third, using extra-base hits from Marley Parker and Remington Clifford, a double and a triple, to stretch the margin even further.

Despite the score, Eufaula continued to battle at the plate. Rayleigh Peterson and Mena Rodriguez led the way with two hits apiece, showing resilience and determination through the fi- nal innings. Box added an RBI for the Lady Ironheads, who never backed down against a high-powered Byng squad.

Byng finished with 16 hits on the day, led by Piper Presley’s perfect 3-for-3 performance. Townsend, Clifford and Graham each drove in three runs, fueling the offensive explosion.

Box took the loss in the circle for Eufaula, while Presley earned the win for Byng.

Byng topped Eufaula 15-2 in game two on Wednesday. Abby Box opened the game for the Eufaula Lady Ironheads. The starting pitcher surrendered 13 hits and 15 runs (14 earned) over four innings, striking out none and walking five. Piper Presley led things off in the circle for Byng Lady Pirates. The pitcher surrendered two hits and two runs over four innings, striking out none and walking five.

Maddison Lee drove the middle of the lineup, leading Eufaula with two runs batted in. The center fielder went 2-for-2 on the day. Hannah Beaver had two walks.

Green goes yard twice, Powers Lady Ironheads past Sulphur Leah Green delivered a performance to remember in game one on Wednesday, blasting two home runs and driving in six runs to lead the Eufaula Lady Ironheads to an emphatic 8-3 victory over Sulphur.

From the very first inning, Eufaula set the tone.

Green ignited the offense early, ripping a triple that plated two runs and sparked a four-run first inning. Abby Box followed with an RBI single, and the Lady Ironheads capitalized on a Sulphur error to jump out to a commanding lead.

But Green was just getting started.

In the second inning, she crushed a home run over the left field fence to extend the lead, sending a clear message that the Lady Ironheads were in control. Then in the fifth, she electrified the game again, this time with an insidethe- park home run, adding two more runs and capping off a dominant night at the plate.

While Green powered the offense, Eufaula’s all-around play sealed the win.

The Lady Ironheads racked up 10 hits, with Abby Box, Rayleigh Peterson and Paizliegh Bird each turning in multi-hit performances to keep the pressure on Sulphur throughout the game.

Box was equally steady in the circle, going the distance with six strong innings. The right-hander allowed just three runs, two earned, while working efficiently and keeping Sulphur from ever gaining momentum.

Defensively, Eufaula was sharp and disciplined, turning three double plays to shut down potential rallies and showcase a complete team effort.
