It was a day of pride, celebration and the culmination of years of hard work as two Eufaula seniors made their college dreams official Wednesday.
Surrounded by family, friends and teammates, Sydney Schiffli and Johna Bumgarner signed their letters of intent, each taking the next step in their athletic journeys and representing Eufaula High School on a bigger stage.
For Schiffli, the moment marked the continuation of a cheer career built on leader-ship, dedication and school pride. She signed to cheer at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, where she will take her energy and skill to the collegiate level.
A cornerstone of the Eufaula cheer program, Schiffli has spent years helping lead the squad while contributing to its success and recognition. Her presence has been felt not only in performances and competitions, but in the culture she helped build within the program.
“I’m very proud of Sydney,” Eufaula cheer coach Dawn Dupire said. “She has worked tremendously hard throughout the years and has been a perfect representative of Eufaula High School.”
The daughter of Stephanie and Andy Schiffli, Sydney’s journey has been one of commitment and consistency — the kind that doesn’t always show up on a scoreboard but is essential to a program’s success. Her signing reflects both her talent and the countless hours spent perfecting routines, leading teammates and representing her school with pride.
On the hardwood, Johna Bumgarner has made her mark in a different but equally impactful way.
The Lady Ironheads standout signed with Connors State College after a stellar high school career that saw her become one of the most reliable and versatile players in the program. Bumgarner averaged 13 points, five rebounds and four steals per game, while shooting 35% from beyond the arc and 71% from the free-throw line.
Her performance earned her the Eufaula Indian Journal Most Valuable Player honor, but her impact went far beyond the stat sheet.
“Johna has been the cornerstone of our basketball program the last two years,” Eufaula head coach Jason Radomski said. “She is a great team player, easy to coach and wants to learn. She has a high skill level that Connors noticed, and she earned everything she’s getting today.”
Bumgarner’s ability to contribute in every phase of the game — scoring, defense and leadership — made her a constant presence for the Lady Ironheads. Whether it was knocking down a big shot, creating turnovers or setting the tone with her hustle, she consistently rose to the occasion.
Her signing represents not just individual success, but the strength of Eufaula’s athletic programs and the opportunities they continue to create for student-athletes.
Wednesday’s ceremony was filled with emotion as both athletes reflected on their journeys — from early practices to big moments under the lights — and looked ahead to the challenges and opportunities awaiting them at the next level.
For Eufaula, it was a reminder of what dedication and community support can produce. For Schiffli and Bumgarner, it was the start of a new chapter — one built on everything they’ve accomplished and everything still to come.
